TEAM LEAN MEETING #1 HAS SUCCESS WRITTEN – OR ROUTED – ALL OVER IT!
Jason Mozdy took the lead-off role and presented his LEAN Initiative in the very first TEAM LEAN meeting on Thursday, May 26th. In attendance were Jason, Shawn, Brian, Todd, and Chad.
Jason’s concept is defined as Lean Stud Marking. Jason contemplated options to save time with this task. After coming up with options, Jason used analytical (critical) thinking and decided on the approach he presented. In our LEAN MEETING, it was ALSO discovered that this new idea will end up saving time in not only in routing, but fabrication, paint prep, paint, and vinyl depending on the design of the sign. Additionally it will lessen the stud marks on the outside of signs.
The initiative was to pre-program the router software to indicate 3 small holes, or 1 larger hole depending on manufacturing requirements. Right now, this task is done manually for each sign made.
This is more LEAN than current practice because it can save up to 80% of the time now taken to identify stud marks. Time-wise Jason is estimating a savings of 20-25 minutes per occurrence, while increasing speed and accuracy, and that’s JUST routing! As previously noted, this will also save time in the other departments of exterior. This is now programmed in the router software.
Jason plans to explore other methods of marking to eliminate even more steps in the process.
